That is due to a few things: the meringue wasn’t dry enough when folded in, it’s a humid environment and/or the batter was overmixed. The viscosity of the batter is very crucial to ensure proper macaron making. Remember, you want that lava-like quality. Always store macarons in an airtight container. I grew up in the fifties, in a series of small towns in Western Australia, with three older sisters. As a child I drew constantly and compulsively, inspired by beautifully drawn schoolgirl annuals from England. I secretly devoured forbidden American comics, poring over the draughtsmanship. Ormerod's (Who's Whose) buoyant, paneled pictures propel this storybook about a mouse doll and her girl owner who start the morning with a cuddle in bed. The minimal text narrated by Miss Mouse Continue reading » We All Went On Safari (my son's class - age 4 & 5 - read this book as part of their "Africa week" school project)

I have all of your books. You are with out a doubt the most clear headed common sense knowledgeable baking instructo The “skin” helps create that hardened shell that’s iconic of the macaron. Also, without proper “skin” development, when baking, the heat will escape from the top rather than from the bottom which creates the other iconic feature of the macaron — the “feet”. Overmixing can result in flat macarons. After the dry ingredients and meringue are fully incorporated, macronage is the folding technique that ensures the proper batter consistency. Slowly fold the mixture using a thin metal spoon until it loosens a little and becomes smooth. This book is aimed at children around Key Stage One and Early Years. I enjoyed reading the book, especially the narration for Gemma’s brother as this demonstrated the frustration him and his family felt when Gemma would not eat. I really liked the fact that the thing that got Gemma eating was fruit on a hat-using fruit as the catalyst is reassuring and will impact children.

A lot of young children can relate to this book. For me particularly I remember not wanting to eat breakfast and did my best to get out of eating dinner but miserably failing! I think a lot parents can relate to this book too! Mr Logan - Well done Kai, and all the Junior Literacy Team. It pleases me to see you all sharing your love of reading and inspiring others to read. People preparing for the season ahead or events like triathlon, marathon, team sports or other sporting endeavors. This week Reception children have been reading the book, ‘Eat up Gemma’, written by Sarah Hayes. This book is a lovely story in which the whole family encourages Gemma to eat. Children have learnt about Baby Gemma, who has been mischievous – refusing to eat, throwing her breakfast on the floor, squashing her grapes, feeding her dinner to the dog. But one day, in church, her brother has a clever idea for getting Gemma to eat up. In the end, his plan is successful and Gemma finishes her food. The book shows a valuable lesson of not wasting food and if you do, and refuse to eat your food how it impacts other people. The innovative idea of Gemma’s brother was received well by the children I read the book to with them thinking it was genius! The book is not really gripping as the story just follows Gemma not eating and then she does but the illustrations are captivating. Reception children also learnt to add and subtract using the, ‘part part whole model’. Many have practiced their fine and gross motor skills. Lots of hard work went in the making of, Mother’s Day cards and loads of discussions were held regarding keeping their Mothers’ Day cards safe and away from the prying eyes of their mums! Many declared it was just impossible to keep their cards hidden until Sunday as mums always find where things are! Some of the children’s ideas to hide their cards just until Sunday, so that they can surprise their mums’ with their super-duper surprise- their lovely cards, were to hide them in the darkest corner of their closets, under mums’ pillows, in the darkest corner of the cupboards and even to hide the cards under their duvets! Hope all the mums find their loving children’s beautiful cards and have the loveliest of Mother’s Day celebrations! Wishing you all the most memorable and enjoyable, ‘Mothering Sunday’!Mary Mary (who, not surprisingly, is quite contrary) isn't afraid of anything --not even the giant who lives on a hill overlooking town. To prove her bravery, she marches up the hill one day, and Continue reading » Although possible, it would be rather difficult to bake macarons in a humid environment. Humidity is macaron’s enemy. Humidity can even affect the moisture in the meringue so it might be hard to whip super-stiff egg whites. Use powdered or concentrated gel food coloring when coloring macarons. You don’t want to add a watery dye to your batter as it can change the texture of your French Macarons. My name is Heather, I am one of the Nutritionists with daveynutrition.
